Zhangjiagang was awarded the title of Jiangsu Clothing Export Base by Jiangsu Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation Bureau in 2008. With a strong industrial base, clothing industry plays an important role in Zhangjiagang's industrial economy and is the traditional mainstay industry. It has developed the features of highlighted scale enterprise, complete industry chain, relatively focused enterprise and obvious industry cluster. In 2002 Zhangjiagang was titled the City of China Textile Industry Base, and in 2003 Deji Town was named China Spandex Yarn Town by China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC). Up till now, there have been more than 300 clothing manufacturers, with an annual output of 250 million garments and 55 million woven ones, which include many market influence products like children clothes, sweater, knitwear, etc. Especially in recent years, they continue to develop the international market and make a significant increase in exports. According to statistics, the total amount of Zhangjiagang's clothing exports reached 911 million USDs, with a yearly increase of 24.72%.
