Toy industry is a characteristic and prosperous industry in Weiyang district. Right now there are more than 800 registered enterprises and around 40000 employees. In 2008, this industry witnessed a sales value of 1.6 billion RMB, with its products exported to different countries and regions all over the world. In 2006, Weiyang district was awarded "the city of plush toys and gifts in China" by China Light Industry Federation; In 2008, the district founded Engineering Technology Research Center of derivative products of animation design, and became the designated plush toys research center for cartoon images of CCTV, and thus the name "production base of cartoon images"; In 2009, the district was awarded "the export base of plush toys in JiangSu Province", and therefore established its leading position in plush toys production in the country, and further expanded its popularity both at home and abroad.
